“…These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full...” (Jn 15:11)

The book of Philippians has been called the “Book of Joy.” We are entitling our upcoming series in Philippians: “Extreme Joy.”

As we begin this study together, let’s take a little time to consider why Christians lose their joy…and see if can begin to learn what Paul meant when he said:

“Rejoice in the Lord always. And, again I say, Rejoice!”
(Phil. 4:4)

Jesus said that He intended His joy to be in us…and He expected it to be full.

Therefore, it is right to assume that a Spirit-filled Christian will be filled with joy and if the joy is gone—something is wrong.

That assertion may confuse you if you think that “Joy” is some giddy feeling that makes you laugh all of the time. But, that is not true joy. True joy is an inner confidence that God is at work in your life and you know He will win!

So, why do Christians lose their joy? Why don’t you take a few moments and read through the Book of Philippians for yourself—take note of how many times Paul mentions “joy” and “rejoicing.”

Why do Christians lose their joy? Make a list of the reasons you think Christians lose their joy. Then, we will talk about it today in worship. We will also break it down this week in our devotionals.

“…that My joy may be in you…”
